Dr Andrew Platts MB BS FRCS FRCR, consultant neuro and vascular radiologist with the Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust, London, UK, has just been appointed editor-in-chief of NeuroNews. Platts joins Professor Michael Swash MB,BS, MD, FRCP, FRCPath, RSM, consultant neurologist and professor of neuropathology, Department of Neurology, The Royal London Hospital, London, who is another editor-in-chief of NeuroNews.

NeuroNews is a quarterly newspaper dedicated to covering the latest research, trial results, controversies, debates, developments, industry and product news in the world of neurointervention.


The next print issue will be published in the first week of August and is scheduled to be distributed at the third European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (ESMINT) Congress in Nice, France, European Society of Neuroradiology annual meeting in Antwerp, Belgium, European Association of Neurological Societies’ 14th European Congress of Neurosurgery in Rome, Italy and Congress of Neurological Surgeons’ annual meeting in Washington DC, USA.


This issue will feature articles and updates on the HELPS (hydrocoil versus bare platinum in the endovascular coil treatment of intracranial aneurysms) and PUFS (The Pipeline Embolization Device for uncoilable or failed aneurysms) trials, flow diverter stents, next generation coated coils, the development of mechanical thrombectomy for acute stroke, outcomes of clipping versus coiling for intracranial aneurysms and more. It will examine whether aneurysms treatment is driven by technology and offer readers a glimpse into the life and views of the well-known neurointerventionist Alfredo Casasco. Casasco is currently a co-director of the Endovascular and Percutaneous Therapy Service of the Hospital Ntra, Señora del Rosario in Madrid, Spain and president of the third ESMINT Congress.
