On World Stroke Day 2026 (29 October), the European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (ESMINT) has called for sustained investment in education, research, and stroke services.
According to ESMINT, this year’s World Stroke Day campaign—‘Every M1nute Counts’—highlights the importance of recognising stroke symptoms and seeking emergency medical care without delay.
Mechanical thrombectomy has transformed the treatment of stroke caused by large vessel occlusion (LVO), giving many patients a better chance of returning to an independent life, as noted in an ESMINT press release.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that more patients benefit from this progress through timely access to treatment, skilled teams and well-coordinated stroke networks,” commented ESMINT president Christian Taschner (University Medical Center Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany). “Every minute counts, and every eligible patient deserves the best possible chance of recovery.”
ESMINT states that it supports these goals through its European Stroke Course in Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (EXMINT) programme, practical skills training, and fellowships, helping physicians develop the expertise needed for endovascular stroke treatment.
Together with partner societies, ESMINT also develops evidence-based guidelines and training standards, promotes clinical research, and shares knowledge across borders—with these efforts helping to build skilled teams and strengthen stroke care across Europe, and beyond.
