Sonorous Neurovascular has announced management changes that will see Joel Harris—previously the company’s president—assume the role of chief executive officer (CEO), with founder and former CEO David Ferrera stepping down. Additionally, board member Paul Brooke has been elected as the new chairman of the board at Sonorous.
A press release from the company notes that both of these leadership transitions are effective immediately.
“I am honoured to lead Sonorous at this important time. We remain focused on advancing the BosSTENT and transforming outcomes for patients,” said Harris, who brings with him more than 35 years of experience in the medical device industry as well as a track record spanning sales, marketing, clinical development, and executive leadership.
“Sonorous is entering an exciting phase of clinical and regulatory progress,” Brooke added. “With Joel Harris as CEO and our executive team, we are confident the team will deliver meaningful innovation to patients without distraction.”
Sonorous states in its recent release that the company is well-positioned for continued growth under this new leadership, and maintains “strong momentum” via its BosSTENT device—the “first” braided, self-expanding cerebral venous stent designed specifically for venous sinuses—and evolving pipeline.
Notable accomplishments listed by Sonorous include the receipt of French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety (ANSM) and Committees for the Protection of Persons (CPP) authorisation to conduct a pivotal European study supporting a future CE-mark submission, as well as Health Canada investigational testing authorisation (ITA) approval to include Canadian sites in this European study, and a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Breakthrough Device designation to treat pulse-synchronous tinnitus caused by venous sinus stenosis.
Additionally, Sonorous says it is advancing towards an investigational device exemption (IDE) submission and “broader market approvals”.
In its release, Sonorous further states that its board thanks founder and former CEO Ferrera for his “foundational contributions” to the company.
Ferrera has been subject to criticism on social media in recent months due to a video circulating online that captures an altercation between him and a street performer in Nashville, USA, with Sonorous also coming under scrutiny as a result.
