J Mocco, an endovascular neurosurgeon at Mount Sinai in New York City, USA has been named the 2022 president of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS) and will lead the SNIS’ initiatives to advance excellence in minimally invasive neuroendovascular care.
“SNIS has an incredible opportunity to engage with medical minds across the world,” said Mocco. “I am eager to work with renowned neurointerventionists near and far to share best practices and improve outcomes for our patients. SNIS is proud to continue neurointerventional innovation on a global scale.”
Mocco has published more than 525 peer-reviewed publications, edited three textbooks on neurosurgical techniques, and runs both national and international clinical trials to help patients with cerebrovascular disease.
Outside of his clinical work, he serves as a professor and senior system vice chair in the Department of Neurosurgery at Mount Sinai and the director of the Cerebrovascular Center. His research interests focus on translational efforts to treat ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke.
Mahesh Jayaraman, a neurointerventional radiologist at Rhode Island Hospital (Providence, USA), is now president-elect of SNIS and Johanna Fifi, a neurointerventionist at Mount Sinai Hospital (New York, USA), has been elected vice president.
