Intravent Medical has announced the appointment of Adam Arthur (Semmes-Murphey Clinic, Memphis, USA) as its chief clinical strategy officer (CCSO). In this role, Arthur will lead clinical strategy for the upcoming launch of the company’s platform for external ventricular drain (EVD) placement, Solopass, while also guiding the development of additional minimally invasive applications.

As noted in an Intravent press release, Arthur brings with him a wealth of experience, owing to his distinguished career in both open cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery. As the James T Robertson endowed professor and chair of Neurosurgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (Memphis, USA), and a practising neurosurgeon at Semmes-Murphey Clinic, he has been at the forefront of several neurovascular treatment advancements. Arthur has also played leading roles in numerous clinical trials, including the pivotal WEB-ITSTEM and MIND studies.

“Bringing advanced neuronavigation featuring real-time imaging to the bedside has the potential to change the standard of care for EVD placement,” Arthur commented. “Importantly, this platform also creates a pathway for minimally invasive approaches to treating intracranial haemorrhage—without the need to move critically ill patients from the ICU [intensive care unit].”

Intravent states that its US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared Solopass technology delivers real-time ultrasound imaging during EVD placement procedures, integrating frameless fixation with a rigid guidance system designed to support precise localisation and navigation in critical-care environments.

The Solopass system—designed “from inception” for the critical-care setting—combines 2D and 3D ultrasound imaging, artificial intelligence (AI) and trajectory guidance to provide real-time intraprocedural localisation and navigation. Intravent claims that this helps to avoid the limitations of traditional systems, which rely on preoperative images that can become unreliable and no longer reflect actual anatomy due to brain shift or evolving pathology.

“Dr Arthur’s exceptional expertise and forward-thinking approach to neurosurgery make him an invaluable addition to our team,” said Intravent chief executive officer (CEO) Adam Barner. “His insights will help guide the continued clinical development of our Solopass platform to address significant unmet clinical needs.”
