Mentice has received a grant from the Swedish government agency for innovation, Vinnova, to develop a simulation-based training system including validated metrics capable of assessing proficiency in treatment of acute ischaemic stroke.

As recent studies have clearly demonstrated the benefits of endovascular treatment of stroke there is a demand for an increased number of physicians able to perform endovascular acute ischaemic stroke procedures. The purpose of the Vinnova project is to offer a validated system to educate, train and certify physicians in specific endovascular skills to help meet this demand.

With this new training system, health care providers can set up, train and educate stroke teams with more ease and safety and with shorter lead times, according to a company release. The company expects that this will allow an  increasing number of acute ischaemic stroke patients sooner to be offered thrombectomy treatment.
